Nicol Francis Hendruk *1998
I was born to Czech parents in Arizona and grew up alternating between the United States and the Czech Republic. I attended high school in Karlovy Vary, where I also studied in
I currently live.
I am self-taught. I have been drawing with passion since I could hold a pencil. Since then it has been one of my favorite ways of expression. I draw from my imagination, intuitively, without
reference images. When I create, I let myself be guided by a certain feeling and compulsion of my hand. Each line then guides me further, and what ends up on the paper is often
a surprise even to me. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources. A song or style of music, a dance, a film or comic strip, a particular situation, a curious character in a story or a person in my life catches my eye. It makes me experience moments of excitement and fascination, or fear and shame. I have always been fascinated by the natural beauty of the human body, which is why I love to draw figures and figures in motion, from different angles. It is interesting to me that a person can express many things in many different ways. I like to portray nudity, vulnerability, openness and intimate experiences. I am generally interested in depicting people, especially women, because that is who I am, what I know, what I recognize and what inspires me.
I draw on white paper (A4 - 21 x 29.7 cm) and use a mixture of different creative materials such as pencils, coloured and watercolour crayons, ink pens, markers, drypoint and oil pastels.
